gràffica magazine, daily newspaper focused on design, and specialized on graphic design, image and communication, celebrated past December the award ceremony of the prestigious Gràffica Awards, at Museu del Disseny de Barcelona.
One of the awarded was America Sanchez, author of the logo and corporate image of mobles 114, so we want to pay homage to this graphic designer, photographer and image educator.
America Sanchez, one of the most important designers in Spain, is the creator of emblematic logos and images since the moment he arrived in Barcelona in the 60s.
His long professional career, defined by a style separated from rationalism based on the Bauhaus and in constant search of irony and inventiveness, provided him with a broadened portfolio where apart from mobles 114, Generalitat de Catalunya, la Caixa, Gran Teatre del Liceu, FC Barcelona, or Tricicle can be found.
Gràffica Award completes a extended collection of prizes like Laus Awards (6 times), Premio Nacional de Diseño in 1992 or Premio Ciutat de Barcelona in 2001. His work is part of MoMA New York permanent collection. He is the author of the famous book Barcelona gráfica too.
